Rendering

When it comes to rendering a property, McCall Construction Ltd, can transform the exterior surface, protecting it from weather elements, and increasing the property’s value. Rendering involves applying a layer of cement, sand, and other materials to create a smooth and even surface. Exterior rendering can completely transform the look of a property, giving it a fresh and modern aesthetic. It can also improve the property’s insulation and weather resistance. Interior rendering, on the other hand, can be used to create decorative finishes or repair damaged walls. Whether it’s a residential or commercial property, our professional rendering services can significantly improve the overall appeal and value of the property, making it more attractive to potential buyers or tenants.

Our team works with all types of rendering materials including; acrylic renders, silicone renders, through-coloured renders, sand and cement mortar, and lime renders.

Smooth as silk

Float Finish

The float finish plastering process involves the application of several layers of plaster onto a prepared surface. The first layer, known as the scratch coat, provides a base for subsequent layers. After the scratch coat has set, the float coat is applied. The float coat is a finer mix of plaster, typically containing finer aggregates such as sand or marble dust.

Once the float coat is applied, it is worked with a wooden or metal float to create a smooth and even surface. The float is used to level out any imperfections and create a consistent texture. The process requires skill and experience to achieve a professional finish.

McCall Construction Ltd have used the Float finish technique on both interior and exterior surfaces, creating seamless surfaces that enhance the aesthetic appeal of the space.

Tyrolean

The term Tyrolean is a form of render and is also a form of polymer cement. The Tyrolean finish is an exterior rough finish whose name originates from the traditional alpine building process and gives a weathered look to walls. This solution can be more effective than plastering or basic sand and cement render finishes.

Cement can be applied with coating sprays or specialist machines. The polymer aspect of the substance ensures it has reliable weatherproofing capabilities. This is a suitable choice if you need to weatherproof an exterior wall. Tyrolean is also effective at preventing cracks, something many homeowners are keen to see at home. Tyrolean is suitable for use with internal walls, but Tyrolean finishes are far more commonly associated with outside walls.

Sparring & Pebble Dash

Pebble dash dates back to the 1920s when builders would use it to cover old bricks on the outside of a building. It’s a wall covering typically found on exterior walls, pebbles are tossed and pushed into two coats of a lime and sand foundation. Pebble dash is a modern variant of a Roman-era rendering technique that involves throwing a mixture of quicklime and sand at outer walls to create a stippled impact.

Spar dash is a wall coating made with a mortar and flint chips added into wet cement and onto bricks to provide weatherproofing.

It has become widely popular across the UK due to its cost effectiveness and low upkeep requirements. Both these techniques are the ‘marmite’ of the rendering world – love them or hate them – we have the skills to create these surfaces – or remove them!

Longevity and stylish

Monocouche Render

Monocouche is a popular type of external house render that’s used to protect the house from weather elements and to give it a beautiful decorative finish. The term “monocouche” is of a French origin and means “single layer” or “single bed”. It originated in mainland Europe and has been growing in popularity in the UK ever since.

McCall Construction Ltd have found this to be a popular rendering technique because it requires only one coat, lasts longer than traditional renders and it is a coloured render – it doesn’t need masonry paint to be applied afterwards. All this monocouche render a practical, high-quality choice for many UK builds.

K-Rend

K Rend is a coloured render that is applied to your exterior walls – it can be used instead of sand, cement & paint. The coloured pigment is in the render – so this means that you don’t have to paint the property. The self- coloured render can be applied by hand or sprayed – it incorporates silicone technology. Silicone render is more resistant to cracking and fading, making it a great choice for areas with harsh weather conditions.

We offer specialist plastering & rendering solutions and brickwork & decorating services.
